Ms. Florez, Teacher of the Year
Ms. Florez has been an active participant at NBB throughout her 11 years as a teacher here. She has always assisted and given her input in many different committees. She is currently a grade level chair for 2nd grade, she is a mentor with the i3 Mentor Scale up Grant, treasurer of Social Committee and After School Care manager. Ms. Florez has a wonderful rapport with her fellow colleagues. She is grateful to be able to work at a place she loves and believes in. This is one of the reasons she always aspires to Keep the Dream Alive and make NBB a wonderful place.
Ms. Nunez, Rookie Teacher of the Year
In Ms. Nunez’s classroom, she aims to build a positive relationship with her students, parents, and families and becomes a liaison for them to foster the home – school connection. She also works to lower her students’ affective filter to create a safe and risk – free place to learn. In addition to ensuring the emotional safety of all learners, specific strategies are incorporated, such as the use of manipulatives, small group instruction, and peer work to promote second language acquisition. She also fosters an environment of multicultural sensitivity, linguistic appreciation, and knowledge that validates each student for his or her unique background and potential.
